I teach social studies and math in a Project Based Learning high school in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I am a member of the National Faculty for Buck Institute for Education facilitating PBL workshops around the country.
I founded NovaNow, a conversational conference at my school focused on PBL, inquiry, and student-centered pedagogy. I collaborated to create a Maker Space at MACUL, the state ISTE affiliated conference. I also created a national PBL election project, #MyParty, that runs in presidential election years. My passion is helping others create PBL curriculum at all age levels and for all content areas.
I believe that whoever is “doing” is “learning.” My students are challenged by inquiry to direct their own learning. I strongly believe in student “voice and choice” in authentic tasks. My job is to create subversive citizens who will question the status quo and bring justice and equality to the world. I do not like standardization of students and schools.
This blog contains my ramblings about what ever is on my mind about education. These are my views only and do not represent any other organizations or my employer.
